Next Year's Girl Fun Facts:
The main tracks of Next Year's Girl were recorded live without rehearsal and without a click track.
Every song on the EP features John Ginty on B3. John is currently touring the world with the Dixie Chicks.
Next Year's Girl was influenced by the music of Elvis Costello, Jason Isbell, Tom Petty, Kacey Musgraves, and the Rolling Stones. For a playlist of all the songs that influenced the EP, check out this blog by Rachel!
Next Year's Girl ends with a cover of Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth," which was recorded in two takes at the very end of a marathon three day recording session. The second take is what you hear on the record.
Rachel writes all her own lyrics.
The song "Next Year's Girl" was written as a response to "This Year's Girl" by Elvis Costello.
The song "Going Through the Motions" was written in response to Kacey Musgraves' "It Is What It Is."
"Perfect" was the first song written for the album, but it almost didn't make the cut. Rachel scrapped most of the lyrics to the song after the track was recorded, and only rewrote them and recorded a vocal days before Next Year's Girl headed to mastering.
Rachel and her band have played three of the songs from Next Year's Girl live on NASH FM 94.7 NYC -- "Next Year's Girl," "Crash Hard," and "Perfect."
