After All (The Bird Song) (Allyn/Hibbert)

My bird has lost her song

Why won’t she sing for me anymore?

She sits there in the back of her cage

Silently looking at the floor

She looks at me when I whistle to her

And she opens her beak to try

But not a sound ever comes out

No not even a little cry

Ohhhhhh

My bird has lost her voice

And I’m not sure what to do

There’s nowhere to turn to get it fixed

Why she stopped, I haven’t a clue

She flies around effortlessly

But I can see it in her eyes

Without her songs, what kind of bird is she?

She breathes a tiny sigh

She can’t sing her morning songs to celebrate the sun

And she can’t sing when midday comes to entertain everyone

She can’t sing goodnight to me and that’s the worst of all

She can’t sing, no matter how she tries

            And darkness quietly falls

My songbird has lost her joy

I’ll help her find it again

She can’t sing for me, it seems

So I’ll sing for her instead

Oh I’ll sing to her the morning songs

And I’ll sing all through the day

I’ll be sure to sing goodnight to her

As the daylight fades away

Tomorrow we’ll sing together again

And she’ll slowly grow to see

Her voice was right there all along

She just had to set it free

All she had to do was set it free

Now she sings her morning songs to celebrate the sun

And she sings all through the afternoon, entertaining everyone

Now she sings goodnight to me and that’s the best of all

Her voice was right there all along

It never left her after all

She just had to set it free

It never left her after all

Ohhhhh
